Brutal beating on birthday

Brogan Mahony, who was until recently staying in Boksburg, was brutally attacked and left unconscious on Commissioner Street, next to Absa, after being assaulted on his 26th birthday, on December 14.

Now he may never walk or talk again.

According to his mother, Xavier Mahony, Brogan now lies in Glynwood Hospital in Benoni, with severe head injuries, allegedly resulting from allegedly being beaten with a brick on the head, which was found at the scene.

She says he is in a semi-coma, and it is not clear whether he will fully recover from this incident.

Neurosurgeon Dr Enrico Branca, who is the doctor in the Neuro Ward where Brogan is being treated, has confirmed that Brogan is brain damaged.

The police are currently investigating the incident.

According to Boksburg Police spokesperson, Lieut Kwenzakwakhe Ngobese, a case of assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm was opened on Brogan’s behalf.

Due to his condition since the incident occurred, Brogan is unable to give details of the events leading up to the attack.

Xavier says it has been very difficult time for them as a family, because they do not know what happened on the night in question.

She adds that there have been many speculations regarding the incident, and she just wants to know if it was a fight, or an attack by strangers or people that Brogan knew.

“We are hoping to get answers following the investigation by police, or that someone with information will come forward to the police,” she says.

Xavier says that the last person seen with Brogan was his cousin, who parted ways with him at midnight.

Brogan was found by paramedics at 3am.
