Rapists get life

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrate Court:

* Daniel Nicholas Young and Charles Martin Laubcher appeared in court on a charge of rape and sexual violation.

They pleaded guilty on October 15, were found guilty, and sentenced on November 29, to life imprisonment for rape and six years for sexual violation.

From 2007 to 2009, the men continuously raped and sexually violated an eight-year-old girl.

Young had previous convictions of reckless and negligent driving from 2004 and theft from 2005.

Magistrate Abel Shilubane presided over the matter and Maria Olivier appeared on behalf of the State.

* Sergio Novela (26), a Mozambican national, appeared in court on 21 charges of house break-in and theft.

He pleaded not guilty on November 13, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 14, to 15 years imprisonment.

He had a previous conviction of being in possession of suspected stolen property from March 2012.

Magistrate Abel Shilubane presided over the matter and Maria Olivier appeared on behalf of the State.

* Keke Mofokeng (38), from Tembisa, appeared in court on a charge of aggravated robbery.

He pleaded not-guilty on October 10, 2012, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 28 to 15 years.

On August 25, 2011, the accused assaulted Andries Labuschagne and stole his vehicle, cellphone, money and pocket knife.

He had previous convictions of assault from 1989, rape 1991 and three robbery and one attempted murder conviction from June 2000.

Magistrate Ramufhufhi presided and Jabu Matha appeared on behalf of the State.

* Romeo Julian Witboi (39), from Reiger Park, appeared in court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He pleaded guilty on September 30, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 30, to six years imprisonment of which two years were suspended.

On April 2, the accused stabbed Mervin Moos in the neck with a broken bottle.

He had a previous conviction of assault from 2006.

Magistrate Ramufhufhi presided and Nokosazana Tyeku appeared on behalf of the State.

* Audrey Koopman (22), from Reiger Park, appeared in court on a charge of assault.

The accused pleaded guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 27, to R1 000 or two months imprisonment.

On November 26, the accused assaulted Jermaine Jacobs by hitting him with open hands.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter and Ntombi Mbonani appeared on behalf of the State.

* Antonio Mbanza (27), a Mozambican national, appeared in court on a charge of possession of stolen property.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty, on October 15, and sentenced on November 28, to R3 000 or six months imprisonment suspended for five years.

On October 9, the accused was found in possession of four stolen garden chairs.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter and Ntombi Mbonani appeared on behalf of the State.

* Johnny Kekona (24), from Angelo informal settlement, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty, on November 6, and sentenced on November 28, to R3 000 or six months imprisonment suspended for five years.

On October 11 the accused stole R300 worth of metal from FMP Scrapyard.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter and Ntombi Mbonani appeared on behalf of the State.

* Martinus Venter (39), from Kempton Park, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded not-guilty on November 19, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 29, to eight months imprisonment suspended for five years.

From April 6 to April 25, the accused stole cigarettes to the value of R1 769 from Engen in Jet Park.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided over the matter and Busi Mofokeng appeared on behalf of the State.

* Mmapule Ramofete (35), Zanele Mofuwane (33), Matsotso Maputsoe (43) and Motsephang Ramofete (54), all from Ramaphosa appeared in court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

They pleaded guilty, were found guilty, and sentenced on November 29, to R3 000 or six months imprisonment suspended for four years.

On September 22, the men assaulted Prudence Baabua by hitting her with a wooden stick, slapping her, throwing stones at her and grabbing her neck.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided over the matter and Busi Mofokeng appeared on behalf of the State.

* Maxwell Mbokazi (44), from Ramaphosa appeared in court on a charge of robbery.

He pleaded not-guilty on November 20, was found guilty, and sentenced on November 25, to 24 months imprisonment.

On September 2, the accused assaulted Sara Ncgobo and stole her handbag containing her work suit, cellphone, identity book and R1 000.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided over the matter and Ntombi Mbonani appeared on behalf of the State.
