Boksburg SPCA takes part in 94.7 Momentum Challenge

Members of the Boksburg SPCA took part in the 94.7 Momentum Cycle Challenge at the Waterfall Country Estate near Kyalami, Johannesburg, on Sunday, November 17.

The 94.km Cycle Challenge is one of the most anticipated festivals of cycling in the country.

Heeding the call to “Ride for a Purpose”, each year over 28 000 cyclists take to the streets of Johannesburg in support of a cause by choosing to ride for a charity of choice or on behalf of a loved one who cannot.

SPCA inspector Diale Ratsela completed the gruelling race 5.20 hours, while Cyclelab Boksburg member Shawn Harris, in association with SPCA Boksburg, completed the 95km distance twice in his 16th Challenge appearance.

Harris rode the first leg of his total distance of 190km on the day in an attempt to improve his personal best time of 3.53 hours. He managed the feat in significant fashion by completing the leg in 3.20 hours.

His second leg saw him ride in the colours of SPCA Boksburg, in an attempt to attract potential sponsors, all for the cause of raising money for the dog shelter.

SPCA Boksburg chairperson Alta Gobey completed 69km of the 95km, to cap-off an atoning outing for the triumvirate.

All three raised R5 800 for their efforts.

This was the 17th edition of the Challenge with the first edition taking place in 1996.
