Taxi owner survives hail of bullets

A Boksburg taxi owner was seriously injured when three men driving in a white Hyundai recently opened fire on him, in Farrar Park.

According to Boksburg SAPS police spokesman, Mathanda Ngobese, the victim told the police he was driving along the street, approaching his home, when the trio stopped their vehicle in front of his, blocking the way.

He then got out of his vehicle and fled on foot, towards a nearby house.

“The victim tried to climb over the gate but he fell. That is when he was hit by a bullet in his right thigh and in the left of his stomach.”

The shooters fled, and they were still at large at the time of going to press.

A case of attempted murder was registered at the Boksburg SAPS.

The attackers did not take anything from the victim.

Police said the motive for the attack was not known, but it is believed that the shooting might be linked to the on-going taxi violence in Boksburg area.

The victim, whose name is known to the Advertiser, has reportedly been discharged from hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.
