Grow a moustache for the month of Movember

Movember, which is a word combined from moustache and November, is an annual, month-long event involving the growing of moustaches to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancer and associated charities.

The goal of Movember is to change the face of men’s health.

Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths amongst men.

Michael Ferguson, Get-It journalist and online editor, is a Mo bro, the name given to men around the world who are growing moustaches to raise awareness on men’s issues.

“The event started off to raise awareness on testicular cancer, but is growing and now also puts the spotlight on all men’s health issues, not just cancer,” he says.

Ferguson encourages women (Mo sistas), to also show support in the cause by putting on a fake moustache, and attending one of the many events which will be held around the country.

“Mo bro’s and Mo sista’s can also donate money towards men’s health survivorship and research programmes,” he says.

Ricardo de Souza, Advertiser sales rep, has been participating and supporting the Movember initiative, for the past four years.

Initially he took part just for fun, but soon realised the importance of the campaign.

“Yes it’s fun to grow a moustache, but there’s not much awareness raised about men’s health issues except around this time, and through this initiative I’m playing my part,” says de Souza.
