Public Works awards performance

The 2012/13 Kamoso Awards Ceremony was held at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre on Thursday, October 17.

The National Department of Public Works (NDPW) is the lead and coordinator of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

Through these annual ministerial awards, the department encourages, motivates, recognises and rewards the best performing government departments, municipalities, provinces and public bodies for their significant contribution in creating work opportunities for the unemployed.

Ninety-four participants in the EPWP were honoured in 34 categories.

Gauteng walked away with a number of awards, including Best Metropolitan Municipality in the Infrastructure Sector category.

Western Cape, Limpopo and Mpumalanga received the most number of awards on the night.

Since the implementation of EPWP Phase 2 in 2009, the programme has created over 3-mil work opportunities towards achieving the cabinet mandated target of 4.5-mil work opportunities by March 2014.
