Municipality working on restoring power supply

Residence of Boksburg have been experiencing blackouts in the CBD, Boksburg South and Parkdene areas since midnight last Thursday (October 17).

According to metro spokesperson Sam Modiba, power failures are due to multiple medium voltage cable faults in area.

“The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s engineers are working around the clock to completely restore power supply in the Boksburg area,” says Modiba.

Modiba confirms that the power supply in Parkdene and Boksburg South has been stabilised while they continue to repair faults there.

“A portion of the Boksburg CBD on the eastern side is, however, a bigger challenge, as all three feeder cables to sub 35 have failed multiple times and further repair is no longer practical,” he explains.

According to Modiba, the replacement of all three feeder cables has begun and this means the power supply will remain unstable until the process is complete by the end of the week.

“We, therefore, appeal to our customers in the CBD area to be patient with us until the completion of the replacement process.”
