Planned robbery prevented

An intended robbery of a scrap-yard was prevented in its planning stages when members of EMPD's Intervention Unit, Community Liaison Unit and the SAPS Crime Intelligence raided a house in Windmill Park on October 17.

According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, two suspects were arrested and one unlicensed firearm was confiscated.

“The raid was as a result of information provided by the members of community about an impending robbery of a scrap-yard business in the area.

“It emerged that the two men arrested were from Wattville and were wanted for several robberies,” says Kgasago.

He says that it was also discovered that one of the suspects was on parole after serving a number of years in jail for armed robbery and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

“Over and above the confiscated 7.65mm pistol with live ammunition, the police also found 9mm, .22 and rifle live ammunition.”

Charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition were registered at Dawn Park Police Station against the pair.

The two suspects are expected to appear soon in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court.
