Roads to be temporarily closed for tower installation
Sanral has announced the installation of a tower for a new Isando pedestrian bridge.
The installation work is scheduled to be done on September 28 and 29, affecting northbound traffic from Griffiths Road to Voortrekker Road.
The public are advised to plan their routes accordingly, as the work schedule will consist of road closures and affect pedestrians.
Road-users travelling north on the R21 will not be able to use the R24/OR Tambo International Airport off-ramp between 10.20am and 12.05pm on September 28, or between 6am and 9am on September 29.
They are advised to use the following alternate routes:
* When travelling to the OR Tambo International Airport from the R21/N12 interchange:
* Continue along the R21 northbound, to exit at Griffiths Road.
* Turn left into Griffiths Road and proceed towards Pretoria Road (M57).
* Turn right into Pretoria Road and proceed to Electron Road.
* Turn right into Electron Road and follow the traffic signs into OR Tambo International Airport.
* Travelling to the R24 from the R21/N12 interchange:
*Continue along R21 northbound, exit at Griffiths Road.
* Turn left into Griffiths Road and proceed towards Pretoria Road (M57).
* Turn right into Pretoria Road and proceed to André Greyvensteyn Avenue (M16).
* Turn left into André Greyvensteyn Avenue and continue onto Brabazon Avenue, up to Driefontein Road.
* Turn left into Driefontein Road and proceed to the R24 interchange.
*l Take the R24.
Road-users travelling north on the R21 will not be able to use the R21 northbound between Griffiths Road and Voortrekker Road on September 29, between 6am and 9am. The entire northbound highway will be closed just north of the Griffiths interchange and the alternative routes will be as follows:
* When travelling to OR Tambo International Airport from the R21/N12 interchange:
* Continue along R21 northbound, exit at Griffiths Road.
* Turn left into Griffiths Road and proceed towards Pretoria Road (M57).
* Turn right into Pretoria Road and proceed to Electron Road
*Turn right into Electron Road and follow traffic signs into OR Tambo International Airport.
* To R24 and Pretoria (R21) from R21/N12 Interchange:
* Continue along R21 northbound, exit at Griffiths Road.
* Turn left into Griffiths Road and proceed towards Pretoria Road (M57).
* Turn right into Pretoria Road and proceed to André Greyvensteyn Avenue (M16).
* Turn left into André Greyvensteyn Avenue and continue onto Brabazon Avenue, up to Driefontein Road.
* Turn left into Driefontein Road and proceed to the R24 interchange.
* Take the R24.
People are requested to be patient during the installation and to obey the traffic signs and speed limits, for the safety of the travelling public and the workers on the road.
