A colourful spring for Huis Dien Bothma

Thirty Laerskool Concordia Grade 6 pupils handed flowers and home-baked cookies to 160 elderly people at Huis Dien Bothma, to celebrate Spring Day.

A hundred-and-sixty seasonal spring pot plants were accompanied by big smiles and a happy spring day message by the pupils.

The children also sang happy birthday to Louie Fourie who celebrated his 82nd birthday.

The emotional pupils gave hugs and kisses to the elderly as their eyes watered up with compassion.

Nellie de Jager filled with joy at her Spring Day gifts.

“I’m glad I did this. My great granddad passed away and now I feel free, I really enjoyed myself,” said Natalie Kruger (12).

“I’m sad, but I’m happy to be giving back to the elderly,” said Ruben Theunissen.

One elderly woman, Nellie de Jager, was very happy with her Spring Day gift.

“They gave us something sweet, the cookies, and something beautiful, the flowers. To think they thought about us makes my heart feel warm,” she said.
