Autopsy reveals 2-year-old girl died of strangulation

A post mortem has revealed that the two-year-old Reiger Park baby girl, Angelo Batjies, died as a result of strangulation.

The results of the post mortem were released within a week after the toddler’s shocking and horrific death.

The child died on Friday afternoon, August 16, in Reiger Park, after she accidentally strangled herself with a skipping rope, while playing alone in the yard.

The toddler’s body was later discovered by her grandmother just before 4pm on Friday.

She found the baby girl’s body lying on the ground with the rope wrapped tightly around her neck.

The baby’s mother was in the house with her six-month-old baby when the accident happened, according to the police report.

The police say the inquest docket is not yet closed, and it can be changed to one of negligent homicide against the parents. This decision, however, rets with the National Prosecuting Authority.
