Boksburg Reynolds Race team continues to fight

Mother and daughter team, Karen and Kirsty Heath, may appear to be trailing behind all the other teams in the Caxton Reynold’s Race, but the girls don’t believe they are out for the count.

Having fought and won her battle with cancer in 2006, for Karen and her daughter, placing last on the race board thus far is just another challenge she is determined to overcome.

The pair recalls the time before Karen was diagnosed with cancer, a time Kirsty refers to as BC (before cancer).

“We as a family have had to face many difficult moments, including the passing of Kirsty’s father and grandmother, and then my cancer was probably my biggest stumbling block.

“Before I was diagnosed, I used to live to work and hardly did whatever I wanted to do but the cancer made me realize how short life really is,” says Karen.

The Heath girls say they entered the race because of their love for traveling and are very interested in getting to know more about their city.

Four weeks down, it appears that the girls have had a bit of a hard time, but they have put some fuel into the engines and gearing up to move up.

“It has been really interesting following the reactions of people around us reading about us in the newspaper each week, and the Amazing Race has been so much fun.

“It has really been extremely well put together and we have found out about places and things we didn’t know were around,” says Karen.

“Unfortunately we had that one bad week which really set us back, but we are back and fighting this week.”

The Boksburg Advertiser wishes the golden girls the best of luck.
