A Catty affair

The National Cat Society hosted an All Breeds Championship Cat Show at the Boksburg Civic Centre on Saturday, August 10.

The much coveted Cat of the Show title went to Spandau Vulcan, a sphinx bi-colour owned by Sandy Fitz-Patrick.

According to Audrey Kenny, the event organiser, the society has been going for the last 15 years.

“We host three shows a year and as a non-profit organisation we select a charity each year and donate the income from our door,” she says.

“In the past we have supported the JHB Zoo ( Black Footed Cat Project), while the Brakpan SPCA has also enjoyed our sponsorship.”

Natasha Greaves, Feline Breeder business development officer of Royal Canin, says the company has always had a very strong relationship with breeders and veterinarians through collaboration on nutritional breakthroughs for cats and dogs.

A young exhibitor, Ilane du Plessis, entered her seven-month-old Persian Shakespurr Puck into the show, with hopes of him qualifying for the Cat of The Year title. Puck was nominated for the All Breeds Best in Show title.

“I love cats, because they are cute, and I have two other dogs and cats,” she says.

Ingrid de Wet from Benoni was a judge at the event and says it takes longer to qualify to be an all-breeds judge than it does to become a medical doctor.
