Zero tolerance approach to drug and gun crimes

The Reiger Park police exercise zero tolerance for drug and gun offences, and have partnered with other law enforcement agencies to crack down on these illicit activities.

A 29-year-old man from Reiger Park has been arrested after being caught with 97 Mandrax tablets on Wednesday, July 24.

Reiger Park police say the man was travelling through Popcorn Valley, when police officers who were at the time staging a roadblock, pulled the suspect’s car off the road.

Officer conducted a search and found the illegal substances in the man’s possession.

He appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, July 25, on a charge of dealing in drugs.

In another incident, during a crime operation held on Saturday, July 20, in Reiger Park, the police arrested a 36-year-old man after being caught with dagga.

During the operation, they also arrested another man (33) for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and eight live ammunitions.

Officers also seized counterfeit cigarettes from different shops in the area, and issued the law breakers with a fine of R600 per offender.

On the same weekend, police officers closed down illegal shebeens in Ramaphosa and Joe Slovo informal settlements.

Dozens of litres of alcohol were confiscated from the illegal shebeens.

On Thursday, July 25, EMPD K9 Unit officers arrested a 29-year-old man after being found in possession of drugs, in Reiger Park.

R17 500 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime, was also taken from the suspected drug dealer.

Spokesperson for the Reiger Park SAPS, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, says the police will always do their utmost to reduce crime in the community.

“We will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to drug dealing on the streets of Reiger Park, and I would like to appeal to anybody who has information about drug dealing in their area, to contact the police,” appeals Phathela.
