Dawn Park Police Station’s victim empowerment centre is in urgent need of volunteers to support survivors of crime and violence.

According to Constable Busi Cekiso, the centre provides free and confidential counselling services to victims, but more help is needed to meet the growing demand.

“The centre, which is fully furnished and equipped, relies on a dedicated team of volunteers who work in shifts to offer support to those affected by violent crimes.

“However, with the increasing number of victims seeking assistance, the centre is struggling to maintain adequate staffing levels.”

Cekiso is appealing to members of the community who have a heart for helping others to come forward and volunteer their time.

“Even a few hours a week can make a significant difference in the lives of those who have been through traumatic experiences.”

Volunteers at the Dawn Park Victim Empowerment Centre undergo training to provide emotional support, information, and referrals to other services as needed.

They work closely with social workers and other professionals to ensure that victims receive comprehensive care and support.
