Mr and Miss Delmore crowned

The Delmore community witnessed a milestone event recently with the crowning of the first Miss and Mr Delmore.

This event, organised by Excellency Models by NK, marked the beginning of what promises to be a positive and impactful tradition within the community.

Young women, eager to showcase their confidence and talent, graced the stage, competing in various categories, including funky jeans, sports, and evening wear at the pageant that recently took place at Boksburg Town Hall. The event culminated in the crowning of Mihrete Malindi as Miss Delmore 2024.

Malindi (18), from Actonville, was overjoyed with her win. “I feel so happy and grateful; this situation is so unreal and hard to believe,” she shared.

“Being the first titleholder is amazing because I am the first-ever Miss Delmore 2024 Queen.”

Despite not initially being passionate about modelling, Mihrete decided to step out of her comfort zone two years ago, and it has since become her favourite pursuit.

She hopes to inspire young girls in her community to pursue their dreams with the same determination.

The establishment of the pageant was inspired by the vision and mission of Excellency Models by NK, an organisation dedicated to youth empowerment.

The initiative was supported by various sponsors, including Boston, which contributed a R20 000 bursary and Bling Girl, which provided gifts and goodies for the participants.

The event highlighted the importance of community support, as expressed by Terry-Ann Diergaardt, a community activist, who emphasised the need for young people in Delmore to recognise their beauty and potential, regardless of their circumstances.

Nicky Koopman, the driving force behind the event, was overwhelmed with emotion as the first queen was crowned.

For Koopman, who had always dreamed of becoming a model, this event allowed her to live her dream vicariously through the young women who took the stage. The event also featured performances by local talents, including mini influencer Lilly and a dance duo from Boksburg, Left and Right, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

As the event concluded, there was a shared hope among organisers and attendees that this would be the first of many such events, with even greater participation and impact in the future.

Registration for the next Mr and Miss Delmore is set to open by the end of the year, ensuring that this empowering initiative continues to grow and thrive.
