Groeneweide man found dead in river

Known for his quiet demeanour and sweet personality, the family said Abongwe was a cherished son, brother and uncle who brought joy to those around him with his great sense of humour and passion for amapiano music.

A Groeneweide family is grieving the loss of their loved one, Abongwe Gamede (26), whose body was found in a river in Germiston by a herdsman on August 19.

According to his mother, Daisy Gamede, her son went missing on July 27 while travelling from his father’s home in De Deur to her house in Boksburg.

“He was reported missing when he did not arrive at home as expected. The search for him began immediately, but it was not until August 19 that his body was discovered.”

The identification took place at the Germiston Mortuary on the same day, leaving the family devastated.
Abongwe was buried on August 25.

“Whether he was mixing his own tracks or playing the latest hits from his room, music was where he found his true happiness.

“His passion for mixing tracks and enjoying the latest hits brought him immense happiness, making his loss even more poignant for those who knew him,” Daisy said.

The circumstances surrounding Abongwe’s death have raised significant concerns, prompting the Gamede family to demand justice and a thorough investigation.

“We are deeply shattered by what had happened The pain is beyond words, and everyone at home is devastated,” Daisy said.

The spokesperson for the Dawn Park SAPS Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula said investigations are underway.
