During the event, several learners were identified as potentially at risk and will receive assistance from the school and various stakeholders.

The Reiger Park Library, along with representatives from the Boksburg Department of Social Development and the Reiger Park Community Centre, presented information on the dangers of substance abuse and how it can negatively impact lives.

Centre director Elaine Appies said they must reach out to children at a young age and provide them with the knowledge and support they need to make healthy choices.

“By working together with schools, libraries, and community organisations, we can make a real difference in the lives of young people.

“The event was part of a broader effort by the Community of Hope Multipurpose Centre to address the growing problem of substance abuse in the Reiger Park community.

“Substance abuse is a major issue affecting many families in the area.”

Appies said they are losing too many young people to drugs and alcohol.

“We cannot sit back and do nothing. It’s time to take action and support those who are struggling with addiction,” said Appies.

The centre offers a range of services to help individuals and families affected by substance abuse, including counselling, support groups, and rehabilitation programmes.

The centre also works closely with local schools and community organisations to raise awareness and provide resources to those in need.
