Get to know St Francis’ new fundraiser
St Francis Care Centre is a registered NPO catering to dozens of vulnerable children and adults, most of them suffering from threatening and/or life-limiting conditions
As the newly appointed fundraising person at the St Francis Care Centre, Jessie Amond will keep in mind these words from its founder, Father Stan: “Think about who gave and why they helped.”
Amond is determined to keep Father Stan’s legacy going.
The 57-year-old, who takes over from James Matle, started on October 1.
Amond, born and bred in Reiger Park, started his career in the financial industry as a bank teller in 1988. He then worked in finance at South African Airways from 1993 to 1997 before going to SA Express as an assistant revenue accountant. Three years later, he was promoted to revenue accountant.
Now, Amond is ready to take on a new challenge at St Francis Care Centre, which he described as his calling.
“I’m excited. It’s something new and different. Now, I will be on the ground raising funds for the centre.”
It will, however, be a learning curve. Because of the current state of the economy, donor spending has changed. They have fewer funds available to give NPOs.
“I come a long way with the centre and even helped move patients to the current premises. To see Father Stan’s legacy is wonderful, and I want to make sure it’s continued. I want to make sure the centre is well-sustained. Father Stan was my mentor and a very influential person. He even baptised me.”
As we approach the festive season, Amond pleads with the community to assist the centre.
He said they need items such as clothing, cleaning materials, toiletries, groceries and funds to help with the centre’s day-to-day running.
No donation is too small.
“People must not be shy to open their hearts. Every little bit will make a difference.”
