Turky shines with the ball as Spurs CC beat CBC

He took 5/33 as Spurs won their third successive league match.

Bowler Zuber Turky shone with the ball as his fifer saw the Actonville Spurs grab a crucial win on the road after beating CBC Boksburg by 13 runs in the Eastern Premier League in Boksburg on November 5.

The spinner took 5/33 as Spurs grabbed their third win in the league since the start of the season last month. He was assisted by Sabelo Mabanga, who was crucial with bat and ball, with two scalps as they restricted the hosts to 247/9 in their 50 overs.

Mark Pearse and Brandon Grutter had magnificent spells with the bat for CBC, with Pearse top-scoring with 86 runs while Grutter was dismissed shortly after grabbing his half-ton on 51.

Xolani Mahlaba (28), Tlotlo Nchabeleng (21) and Rickus Neethling (21) had decent spells in the middle, but their innings were not enough as Turky’s match-winning spell with the ball condemned the hosts to their second successive loss against Spurs in three weeks.

Earlier, Mabanga top-scored with 68 runs as the visitors posted a commanding 260 in their innings. The bowler was assisted by Shalen Pillay, who fell one ball short of a half-century after being dismissed on 49. Abdullah Patel scored 40 runs in his spell.

CBC All-rounder Grutter took three wickets for 32 runs, while Andrew Rasemene returned with figures of 2/47.

The experienced Robert Mutch had a day to forget with the ball as he took a single wicket and leaked 51 runs in eight overs. Willie Bernhardt and Rickus Neethling also grabbed a wicket each.
