Ashton Eagles soar high in Durban

The Eagles finished first in the hip-hop category and fourth in the co-ed large and small section.

Ashton International College’s cheerleading club, the Ashton Eagles, claimed a first place in the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) National Championship at the Queensmead Hockey Stadium in Durban last month.

They claimed the gold in the performance cheer (hip-hop) section and also finished in fourth place in the co-ed large and small group category.

With these achievements, they have qualified for the inaugural International Cheer Union African Continental championship to be held in KZN.

It was the second year running that the school competed in the nationals.

Gabriella Steenkamp receives her provincial colours.

The school’s Gabriella Steenkamp received her provincial colours after finishing in the top 30 during the Gauteng Cheerleading Association’s colour trials on August 5 and 6.

Gabriella’s hard work and dedication saw her through in a competition that included 79 other athletes.
