Ashton queens are district chess champions

The Ashton International College U18 girls’ chess team are the Ekurhuleni North Chess League champions after clinching the title on July 22.

According to the school’s Stacey Bennet, this was the school’s first-ever girls only team to compete in this tournament.

“Excellent performance from our U18s. They ensured they enjoyed the sweet taste of victory. It was a nail-biting tournament full of exciting and thrilling moments,” she said.

The school will represent the district in the provincial championships on August 19.
