Wardens climb the ranks

All the officers were happy to be promoted.

Boksburg Correctional Services promoted three employees to various positions on June 1.

Nokululeko Sotshantsha, a 46-year-old warden officer, was promoted to budget management accountant at the Boksburg Correctional Services.

Sotshantsha, employed in 2012, said she was ecstatic to be promoted.

“I was not expecting to be promoted, but I’m glad my hard work was rewarded. My main responsibilities in my new position will be to analyse, monitor and manage the budget in the facility,” said Sotshantsha.

She has a national diploma in internal auditing.

Another warden officer, Sibusiso Mashinini (34), who worked as an administration clerk, was promoted to specialised case officer.

Mashinini, employed as a warden officer in 2017, said he felt blessed because of the promotion.

“I appreciate that management recognised me as young as I am and gave me the opportunity. It has motivated me to another level.

“I wasn’t expecting the promotion, so I prayed a lot to be promoted after being shortlisted for the position. My role in the new position will be to ensure the offenders use the rehabilitation programmes and become rehabilitated while in prison,” explained Mashinini.

Mashinini has a national diploma in correctional services and a B-tech in correctional services management.

Warden officer Claudius de Bruyne (54) was promoted from acting unit manager to the manager of external security.

He, too, said he felt blessed.

“I want to inform people that the right formula for succeeding is prioritising education and having perseverance. I think I managed to get where I am because of that.

“I will take up my new position with pride and ensure I perform my duties. My new responsibility will be to ensure everyone is safe in the prison environment, including employees and offenders. He has a diploma in management and a Bachelor’s in business administration.

Napo Moasi, the acting area manager of Boksburg Correctional Services, congratulated the employees.

“This is the beginning of a new path for all of you. Take up your duties with pride and ensure you work in line with the legislature and policies of the Department of Correctional Services. Be an example to your colleagues and always seek knowledge. I wish you all the best.”
