Boksburg North CPF roll up sleeves for SANBS

According to the SANBS's website, blood stocks are significantly low.

Boksburg North CPF Sector One kicked off National Blood Donor Month (June) with a blood drive in Beechcraft Road on June 3.

Members of the CPF, who were supported by Legendary Guardians Exclusive Protection, Black Hawk, Emer-G-Med and Vision Tactical, collected 16 units of blood for the South African National Blood Service (SANBS). The target was 32.

Boksburg North CPF chairperson Mark Gilpin thanked all those who braved the cold to support the drive.

Gilpin highlighted during the blood drive they also created awareness regarding house robberies that are on the rise in Impala Park.

“We gave community members tips such as keeping doors and windows locked and closed. People should also keep their garage doors closed when they leave so that it’s not obvious nobody is home.

Simoné Watts did her part for World Donor Month by donating blood.

“On numerous occasions people come back to a break-in when they leave the garage and gate open when quickly going to the shop,” said Gilpin.

According to local donor practitioner Peter Mafela, the change of venue seems to have impacted blood collection.

“Donors are used to the previous venue, which closed down, however, I’m happy with the support we received. We were hoping for better collections, but I believe this is just a start and improvements will occur. Community blood drives are crucial as they are convenient for donors. We try our best to go where donors are.”

The date for the next blood drive was not available by time of publication.
