Cable Theft Forum spreads the word

The forum will continue to roll-out anti-cable-theft awareness campaigns.

The Cable Theft Forum encouraged the residents of Windmill Park, Dawn Park and Villa Liza to report cable theft when it initiated an anti-cable-theft awareness campaign on April 1.

According to the secretary of the forum, Lethukukhanya Khanyile, they started the campaign to shine a light on cable theft and related activities.

“This is our first phase of educating community members about the importance of reporting cable theft. The anti-cable-theft awareness campaign was a success.

“We started it on the corner of R554 and Trichardts Road, where members of the forum handed out anti-cable-theft pamphlets comprising hotline numbers and messages on what to do when you spot cable theft,” explained Khanyile.

He said they then moved in a motorcade to Windmill Park, where they again distributed pamphlets and engaged with community members about the cable theft scourge.

“Thereafter, we moved to Villa Liza, where cable theft has also been happening, just to assure the residents that we are here to combat the plight.
“Then we moved to the Dawn Park Shopping Centre and gained the attraction we needed because of the number of people there.

“We addressed them at the shopping centre, informing them of our plans and missions to fight cable theft, and we also handed out our pamphlets to them,” said Khanyile.

He added that their last destination was the TotalEnergies filling station, and they received a warm welcome there as well.

“I would like to sum up everything by saying that our awareness campaign was a success. For now, we will continue rolling out awareness campaigns, although we have other plans in the pipeline to fight the cable theft issue.”
