The Bull ready to entertain in Boksburg

The show starts at 14:00. Entrance is R5 per person.

Joshua ‘The Bull’ Chetty is ready to grab the bull by the horns when he takes to the ring at East Rand Traders Square, Boksburg, on February 25.

Hailing from Farrarmere, but from originally Chatsworth, Durban, the Champions Pro Wrestling wrestler will go toe to toe against a mystery opponent at the event, hosted by the Honour Wrestling Association (HWA).

“I have to train twice as hard for the unknown,” said Chetty, who weighs 92kg.

The 30-year old said he was drawn into sports entertainment by American veteran wrestler Bill Goldberg and used Goldberg’s signature move, the spear, to bulldoze his opponents while playing rugby as a youngster in Durban.

The 30-year old has been wrestling since 2010.

Chetty started wrestling at the age of 18 at the Chatsworth Youth Centre, in 2010.

His gimmick is unique and aggressive and resembles those of his idols Goldberg and Mark ‘The Undertaker’ Calaway of World Wrestling Entertainment fame.

“Wrestling is a part of my Indian heritage. I’m a powerhouse – hence the name Joshua The Bull,” he said.

A fan of wrestling from a young age, Chetty said the moment that made him fall in love with the sport was when The Undertaker threw Mick ‘Mankind’ Foley off the top of the steel cage in a Hell in a Cell match at the King of the Ring pay-per-view in 1998.

“It’s my all-time favourite wrestling moment. Watching The Undertaker when I was a child ignited my spark for wrestling.”

Locally, The Bull has wrestled at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre and in Springs.

The showdown at East Rand Traders Square starts at 14:00. Entrance is R5 per person.
