Family of seven loses everything in shack fire

All the family members survived the fire, and no one was injured.

Thusang Community Development recently donated food, clothing, blankets, nappies and baby formula to a family of seven who lost everything in a shack fire on January 11.

The parents have children aged nine, seven, four, two and three months.

The shack was located in Ramaphosa Extension 5, Zone 14.

The mother, Patricia Lumkwana, said she appreciates everything that NPO has done for her family.

“They came to help us when we really needed it. We have lost all our belongings,” she said.

Lumkwana doesn’t know what caused the blaze as at the time of the fire she had taken her three-month-old baby to a clinic.

“I heard from my neighbours that my shack was on fire and rushed home but by the time I arrived the shack had already collapsed,” she said.

Her priority is to now rebuild the shack, but she doesn’t have the material to do so and is pleading for assistance.

“If someone can help us by donating corrugated metal sheets and poles it will help a lot,” the mom said.

The founder of Thusang Community Devopment, Sergeant Lufuno Mudzuli, said they donated all the essentials to help give the family hope.

“We would like to do more for the family and are appealing to people to help with donations so that they can get back on their feet.

“What is especially needed is materials to rebuild the two-room shack.

“I formed this NPO with the main objective of helping people, which is why we didn’t waste any-time when we heard about the family’s crisis,” Mudzuli said.

Any person who wants to donate to the family can call Mudzuli on 061 592 9178 or the family’s neighbour, Mandla Ncoyini, on 078 561 5363.
