Charred body found in veld, police seek your help to solve case

A case of murder has been opened and investigators are appealing for public assistance to identify the victim and solve the case

A murder investigation has been launched after the charred remains of an unidentified person were found lying in a ditch in a veld in Boksburg on October 24.

The body, yet unidentified, was found near the ERPM mine and Angelo Deep, next to Commissioner Street.
It was burned beyond recognition and police were unable to immediately tell whether it was male or female, or ascertain the race or age.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Constable Johannes Msimanga, a team of police officers from the station was dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call from a woman who told them that an unknown man told her that he had stumbled upon the human remains.

“A case of murder has been opened and we appeal for public assistance to identify the victim and solve the case.
“The only thing recognisable is the pair of sneakers the person was wearing. There were also burnt wires lying on top of the remains,” explained Msimanga.

The remains were taken to the Germiston state mortuary for pathologists to conduct further postmortem examination.
The motive for this crime remains unknown. Anyone with information is asked to call the Reiger Park police on 011 960 0220.

Man arrested over illegal firearm
In an unrelated crime story, police arrested a 44-year-old man who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, after he allegedly pointed the gun at another person.

Police have removed a dangerous weapon from the streets of Reiger Park.

According to Msimanga, officers launched a manhunt after receiving a complaint from the victim, They spotted the suspect along Arthur Hobbs Road.
“They asked to search him, and they found the firearm with a magazine loaded with four live ammunition. The weapon will be sent for a ballistic test.

The man was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Further charges could be added.”
The police management urges residents to continue sharing information with the police.
