Local captures award-winning photo

Dooley is passionate about photographing images of birds in their natural environment.

Beyers Park resident David Dooley was recently crowned the winner of the South African section of the Izele 2022 Photo Competition after capturing a stunning photo of a Goliath heron.

Dooley explained his journey behind the lens started last year and he fell in love with photographing images of birds in their natural environment.

“My images are shared freely on the internet, so that all can celebrate with me about what is still right in the world,” said Dooley.

He explained the international photographic competition was hosted by Izele, a group of dedicated scientists and researchers who work tirelessly on the promotion of sustainable grassland conservation.

Izele’s main focus is to connect people who care about the environment.

“A lot of my images have been captured at the Korsman Conservancy, in Westdene, Benoni, which I am a member of, and I was honoured to be included to represent South Africa in the competition after I was encouraged to enter by the chairperson of the Korsman Conservacy, Jane Trembath.

“Only registered conservancies and their members were eligible to participate in this exciting competition, which was designed to highlight the various conservation efforts on the international stage,” Dooley added.
