Metro attending to mess at Dayan Glen dumpsite

The metro confirmed there have been labour issues at the dumpsite.

A resident sent the Advertiser photos of the mini dumpsite in Dyan Glen Road, taken on October 5.

She said they stopped there to ask one of the workers why the rubbish is now being dumped on the street outside.

His response was apparently that the workers are “complaining about money”.

“This is a residential area and this was supposed to be a garden refuse disposal site. There is a school across the road and houses directly next to this dump.

“The rubbish is blowing everywhere and they don’t care because they just want more money,” the resident said.

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini responds:

“The CoE acknowledges the concerns raised. There have been labour issues at the service provider appointed
to manage the Dayan Glen Mini Disposal site.

“It was reported that employees of the service provider were not paid their salaries, and the city has
made arrangements to fast-track the payments of outstanding invoices submitted by the service
provider.

“Alternative arrangements are being made to restore the site back to normality. Litter will also
be attended to on a weekly basis.”
