Rotary helps little ones at Urban Ruins

The Boksburg Rotary Club is always raising funds for a good cause.

Boksburg Lake Rotary Club held a bowls fun day charity drive at the Boksburg Bowling Club to raise funds for various ECD centres in Boksburg on September 18.

According to the Boksburg Lake Rotary Club’s president Linda Stokes, they had 64 participants who made up four bowling teams that challenged each other for fun and to raise funds.

“We managed to raise R5 000 that will be used for children who are based at the Urban Ruins ECD Centre. As a club we are always raising funds to help different ECD centres and feeding schemes, and even this time around we are doing it for the same cause.

“We hosted the initiative to make people aware that the Boksburg Lake Rotary Club is still active and it is ready to tackle any initiative for a good cause. The event also gave us an opportunity to have fun and strengthen our bonds as the Rotarians.”

She added that as a club they are happy that they managed to achieve their goal. According to them the initiative definitely reached their expectations.

“This is our first time doing a charity event like this one, but we are planning to do others of this calibre in the future.

“We understand that there’s a lot of help that our ECD centres need. ECD centres play a pivotal role in the development periods of our children, so that is why we are prioritising their survival,” said Stokes.

The Boksburg Lake Rotary Club needs more members and any person who is interested to join the club may call Linda Stokes on 082 902 2505. The club normally has a meeting on the second and fourth Monday of every month.
