Pilot unharmed after emergency landing in Vosloorus

The pilot was forced to make a quick decision to survive the crash and avoid crashing onto the houses.

A pilot of a two-seater mini aircraft was lucky to escape unharmed after an emergency landing on an open piece of land in Vosloorus this afternoon (August 26).

According to City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi, the DEMS responded to an ERWAT waste treatment plant at around 12:15, where the aircraft was reported to have crashed.

“On arrival, an uninjured pilot was found standing next to the aircraft. On enquiry, he said he had to do an emergency landing after the aircraft experienced mechanical challenges in flight.

A pilot had to make an emergency landing on an open piece of land in Vosloorus after experiencing mechanical issues.

“He was forced to make a quick decision within a split second to try to land in a safe location and avoid crashing into houses..

“According to the pilot, he managed to land the plane but unfortunately, it flipped onto its roof due to the uneven surface it landed on,” said Ntladi.

The Civil Aviation Authority and all other relevant stakeholders were notified about the crash and the CAA will investigate.
