Even more on offer for students at Van Schaik Boksburg

In partnership with TVET colleges and SETA, they will continue to take in interns.

In August 2005, the Van Schaik Boksburg store opened its doors for the very first time in service of students of primarily UNISA and private colleges.

Since Van Schaik is arguably Southern Africa’s leading academic bookstore chain with more than 80 stores located in South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia, the Boksburg store rose to the challenge of the ever-changing landscape of education and started to branch off into the school market.

Today, they are one of the biggest schoolbooks and study guide suppliers on the East Rand.

This store is also known for its wide range of lifestyle products and devices, which fits in with the needs and wants of students.

Shop 10, at the K90 Centre, on the corner of Rondebult and North Rand roads, Boksburg, has been the home of Van Schaik Boksburg for 20 years.

As their customers and market have grown there was a need for expansion.

Van Schaik started off as an over-the-counter store, but as they grew into the school, professional and corporate markets, they needed to open the store for walk-in customers to browse through the glorious displays of books, devices and so much more.

Where they are now

The store now caters for browsing and stationery, including stationery for school and office use, a wide variety of study guides and schoolbooks, lifestyle products and m much more.

All UNISA and college books can be found over the counter to assist students to quickly getting their prescribed books, as staff will pick these accordingly.

About the store manager

This impeccable store is run by a force to be reckoned with, Lydia Motau, who has been manager of the Boksburg store since December 1, 2020.

Lydia is also the external sales consultant for her area in Ekurhuleni since 2010.

She deals with walk-in clients, as well as bulk clients, government and private schools, TVET colleges, government departments and clients in the private sector – all while ensuring that the relationship between Van Schaik and its clients is well maintained and ensuring that Van Schaik always remains top of mind with customers.

Future of the store

Optimistically, the future of the store looks bright indeed. The store has set out to supply the books within reach of everyone studying in the area.

If schools want Van Schaik to stock books for their learners, staff pick and pack school books and stationery and deliver them on time.

The store further plans on increased involvement with nursing and TVET colleges. In partnership with TVET colleges and SETA, they will continue to take in interns like they have been doing for the past five years.

The internship ranges between 12 and 18 months, allowing graduates and those still studying to gain workplace experience.

The store also has great plans to have regular competitions and in-store events for and with schools, libraries, and colleges.

The first competition will be in celebration of International Literacy Month in September.

International Literacy Day serves to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights and to advance the literacy agenda toward a more literate and sustainable society.

Also, in October, they will be celebrating National Teacher’s Month.

World Teachers’ Day is on October 5 and is a special day for the appreciation of educators in their entity, and celebrates their special contributions in a particular field area or in the community in general.
