NPOs join hands to help the needy

Urban Ruins NPO will collaborate with the various organisation in its future charity drives.

Urban Ruins NPO in partnership with RySky Foundation, Rappa Pty Ltd, Armscor and Boksburg Lake Rotary Club recently donated 100 food hampers to local residents in areas such as Plantation and Comet.

The recipients were also provided with lunch. CEO of Urban Ruins NPO Clayton Viljoen said the donation of hampers forms part of their weekly feeding scheme.

“We feed 95 to 100 families a week to serve the underprivileged, some of whom go days without food,” he said.

The founder of RySky Foundation, Annamarie Lechki, said they always collaborate with Urban Ruins for good causes.

“If NPOs work together we can help more people. Urban Ruins is providing food hampers and we are providing cooked meals today. Our organisation runs a soup kitchen for 1 000 people in various parts of Ekurhuleni weekly. Those who can’t come to the soup kitchen, we visit them at home with food,” explained Lechki.

Cathy Ruiters, who runs an afterschool feeding scheme in Delmore Gardens and Driefontein informal settlement, was there helping the organisations that initiated the food drive.

“I love to help people and support good causes. I also assist Urban Ruins NPO with transport whenever I’m free,” said Ruiters.

A food parcel recipient Tricia Tshabalala said she was elated.

“We have been relieved from my worries as parents and appreciate what has been done for us today. The government should help Urban Ruins because it is helping a lot of people in our area,” she said.
