Celebrations of Mandela Day in some parts of Boksburg

Firefighters were delighted to be treated to a breakfast.

RE/MAX Dazzle Benoni dedicated its 67 Minutes for Mandela Day by treating 77 Leon Ferreira Fire Station staff to breakfast on July 18.

Property practitioner at the estate agency Ann Prinsloo said they decided to pamper the staff because they are doing a great job in helping and protecting communities.

“All the fire stations are doing well in helping and protecting communities but we decided to start with the staff at Leon Ferreira because they assist Benoni firefighters when there are major fires in the Benoni area.

“We are here to say thanks. We normally go to old age homes and homeless shelters, but today we decided to do something different as part of celebrating the legacy of Nelson Mandela.

“Firefighters risk it all to save our lives. And the goal is to treat at least five more fire stations to breakfast next year,” said Prinsloo.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s Emergency Services Training Academy senior district manager, Theresa Geldenhuys, said the treat was very welcome.

“It’s nice to see that there are people who care about our wellbeing as firefighters. We usually celebrate Mandela Day internally.

“This is the first time we are marking Mandela Day with an organisation that is not part of the municipality,” said Geldenhuys.

“We are so grateful to RE/MAX Dazzle.”
