Boksburg residents keen to patch potholes

Potholes are found on most roads around Boksburg.

The residents of Boksburg who are part of the Patching Potholes Movement said they are up to the task.

They are, however, struggling to get approval from the City of Ekurhuleni.

The leader of the movement, Anche Moore, said they tried several times to engage with various councillors in the Boksburg area to help them get approval from the City to patch potholes, but without success.

“We have over 300 Boksburg residents in our movement, who are keen to do the groundwork to patch the potholes on our streets.

“We plan to get professional civil engineers to advise and train us about patching potholes. We already have a civil engineer who wants to help us, and there is also a hardware store willing to supply asphalt.

“We want to take the legal route in our mission as a movement.

“Shaun Boshoff, a moderator in the Boksburg community group where this movement started, is already compiling a petition, which will be handed over to the municipality,” said Moore.

She added if they get approval from the municipality, they will designate workers to patch potholes in certain main roads, especially Rietfontein, Atlas, Paul Smit, Rondebult and Main Reef.

Estelle de Jager, another member of the movement, said she is advocating for the approval to patch potholes themselves. This is after she had to spend R5 200 on her car’s tyres and suspension.

“The municipality needs to know that the potholes are a threat to our lives as motorists,” said de Jager.
The Boksburg Advertiser has sent an enquiry to the City of Ekurhuleni concerning the matter, but it is still waiting for a response.
