Damaged infrastructure leaves Boksburg suburbs without water

Water supply has since been restored to the affected areas after taps ran dry for days.

A significant portion of south Boksburg has been left without running water for two days after a major pipeline burst.

Affected areas include homes, schools, businesses and healthcare facilities in the southern suburbs, including Parkrand, Parkdene and Sunward Park.
Responding to our request for comment, the metro confirmed the water supply disruption, saying its technicians were working on a damaged pipe.

One of the affected residents of Parkrand told the Advertiser this morning the problem started last night following a pipeline burst in Boksburg South near the water reservoir next to the licensing department.

Residents pointed out that, due to the loss of water supply, some schools in the area resorted to temporarily closing. Water supply has been restored this morning.

The widespread water outages, reportedly related to damaged infrastructure, power outages that are causing pump failure and resulting in reservoirs running low, have been plaguing dozens of communities in Ekurhuleni, including townships, suburbs and industrial sites.
