Update: Oliver ready to go to a loving home

Oliver has been receiving the best treatment because of the overwhelming support from the public.

Boksburg SPCA is now looking for a forever home for Oliver, the dachshund-cross puppy surrendered to the SPCA in a car oil-soaked bucket.

Oliver made headlines after his owner walked into the society in May with the bucket and told staff he no longer wanted the dog and said it had been sick for a long time.

“The owner put the bucket down and inside was a brown, skeletal figure of what looked like a dog, soaked in car oil. The little guy lifted his head and looked around and when we pulled him out of the bucket we noticed he could still walk. We knew there may be hope,” Vicky Finnemore, the manager of the SPCA, said at the time.

The little dog is now doing well and Finnemore expressed her gratitude to those who made the donations towards his treatment.

“Scores of animal lovers from around the world made financial contributions towards Oliver’s medical treatment.

“Due to the overwhelming public support we’ve received, we have been able to give Oliver the best medical care that we wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise.”

Finnemore highlighted that Oliver has been up for adoption since the end of last year.

“We’ve received phone calls about Oliver, but none of the applications was successful.”

She said the society is looking for a loving home where there is preferably somebody available to look at him during the day as well.

“Maybe somebody who works from home. It should also be a home where there aren’t many other dogs. However, it should be okay if there is one other female dog,” she added.
