Drag racing mania at The Rock Raceway

The event starts at 17:30 every Wednesday.

Adrenaline junkies gathered at The Rock Raceway in Brakpan on February 2 for the Wicked Wednesday event hosted by spinning pioneer Sunesh Pursad and his wife, Narina.

The atmosphere was charged with the sound of screeching tyres, the smell of petrol and high-revving engines, with petrolheads screaming at the top of their lungs.

Drag racing, spinning and drifting were on the menu, with the raceway enveloped in smoke.

Wicked Wednesdays is the brainchild of Sunesh, Narina and the raceway owner, Tim Stephens. They started this event to give car enthusiasts a safe and secure place to race.

“We wanted to take illegal drag racing off the streets. It’s a mid-week break for many car enthusiasts, as well as people who just appreciate the vibe.
“It’s a social drag racing event that also showcases spinning and occasionally some drifting and bikes at an affordable price.
“It has been a tremendous success and the support of the community has been overwhelming. This event has been able to help families in our community. We look forward to growing the sport,” said Narina.
The event starts at 17:30 every Wednesday.
