EMPD officers in the eastern region were on January 20 honoured for the tremendous work they have delivered to the community.
According to the EMPD’s Lerato Monyane, the units recognised during the ceremony, held at Faranani hall in Tsakani, are: JOCC Centre, first response unit, social crime prevention unit, land invasion unit, tracing unit and Covid-19 unit.
The precincts are Benoni, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Tsakani, Kwa-Thema, Brakpan, Geluksdal, Kingsway, Nigel, Springs and Duduza.
Ekurhuleni municipal commissioner Chief Isaac Jabulani Mapiyeye bestowed certificates of excellence on the officers.
Meanwhile, the regional director, Brig K Mahlangu, and other senior officers expressed their gratitude to the teams for the commitment they have shown.
The Tsakani EMPD precinct received the overall award for Best Performing Precinct in terms of arrests, recoveries, written notices and general participation in community-based projects.
Their tracing unit also received commendation for the best unit in effecting arrests, recoveries and liaising with the community.
Monyane said jubilation could be seen from all recipients who thanked the commissioner for recognising their extra mile while carrying out their official duties.
“Our community is united in assisting us greatly, and they respect the law. It is only a pleasure to be servicing such outstanding members of the community”, said one of the recipients of the certificates.
Mahlangu said: “We congratulate the deserving recipients and urge others to learn from their colleagues. Let’s remember that the fight against crime will not be won alone, as we need the assistance of our community. We pride ourselves in our professionalism. Let’s continue servicing and protecting our residents with pride.”
