EMPD tip of the week

A tow-truck, commonly known as a breakdown, with the gross vehicle mass (GVM) exceeding 3 500kg requires a certificate of fitness (COF).

“Operating the above-mentioned type of vehicle without its annual COF could result in the operator being issued with a R1 500 written notice by the EMPD officers for the traffic offence.

“So, as a tow-truck operator, you do not only need a professional driving permit (PRDP) but you must also ensure that your breakdown is fit to be on the road,” explained EMPD Insp Kobeli Mokheseng.
