Gauteng East fair well in netball provincial open tournament

The provincial tournament is for the premier players in the country.

The Benoni Action Sports Centre, based in Benoni CBD, recently participated in its first Netball Provincial Opens Tournament since the first lockdown.

The tournament is for the top players in the country.

“The tournament took place in Centurion from October 12 to 15,” said Christine Straussner, arena and team manager.
Gauteng East had the following teams participate: mixed A, mixed B, ladies A and ladies B.
“Our teams were first selected in October 2019, but due to Covid and tournament postponements we didn’t get the chance to play, until now,” said Straussner.

“We managed to keep the teams together through all this time, however, we lost a lot of players along the way due to injuries, tournament date changes and retrials.
“It was a very heart-breaking and prolonged two years for the players, but eventually, due to the relaxation of Covid level restrictions, we were able to have a successful provincial tournament.”

Gauteng East results were as follows:
• Mixed B took the gold against Gauteng North
• Ladies B made the bronze final but lost to Gauteng North
• Ladies A made the bronze final but lost to Southern Gauteng
