Jewellery store robbers arrested in Johannesburg on same day

The police have launched a manhunt for about six more suspects who escaped with some of the jewellery.

Police have on August 18 arrested four men in connection with the recent robbery at one of the jewellery stores at the East Rand Mall.

The suspects were found with jewellery with an estimated value of R1-million in Bertrams, Johannesburg.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo, police officers approached the four suspicious-looking men. They were found in possession of two sets of gloves, a balaclava, cellphones and jewellery.

About 10 men stormed the shop and held employees and patrons at gunpoint before taking jewellery and cellphones.

The suspects apparently fired shots as they were leaving the mall.

“A message was sent to police officers on the ground to be on the lookout for suspects who were driving in three vehicles, a Ford Figo, silver VW Polo and a white Toyota Fortuner.”

Police are searching for about six more armed suspects. They are appealing to anyone who might have information to call the nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111.
