City manager leads a women manned roadblock operation in Kwa-Thema

The city manager will on August 31 be hosting an awards ceremony to honour all women in uniform in the city.

In celebrating Women’s Month in the City of Ekurhuleni, the city manager Dr Imogen Mashazi took time out to acknowledge work done by women in uniform.

She rolled up her sleeves and joined women officials in the EMPD to facilitate a roadblock at a busy intersection between Tsakani and Kwa-Thema on August 12.

The two-hour-long women-only roadblock yielded positive results with three hijacked vehicles impounded on the scene. Over 70 traffic fines, amounting to R38 200, were issued.
In addition, 26 warrants of arrest were issued for failure to pay outstanding fines on the day, which amounted to R19 500.

Mashazi encouraged the women in uniform in the city, including those in the EMPD and Disaster and Emergency Services, to take their jobs seriously as they were at the forefront of enforcing by-laws in the city.

“I am grateful to the team for recording such successes in less than two hours. This demonstrates their determination to fight lawlessness in the streets of our city,” said Mashazi.

“We must further appreciate the role of these officers as frontliners amid the risk brought by Covid-19. Words cannot begin to define how grateful we are to these members and other frontline staff in the city.”

On August 31, the city manager will be hosting an awards ceremony to honour all women in uniform in the city for the work they continuously do as frontline workers.
