Beauty on a budget

We love these budget beauty hacks.

  • If your mascara dries out, simply soak the container in hot water.
  • Make an emergency face mask by mixing a little baking soda with water. Apply the paste onto spotty areas for about two to three minutes. Rinse afterwards.
  • To make a body scrub, mix brown sugar with honey and some olive oil.
  • Buy rose water and use it as a toner.
  • Use baby shampoo or coconut oil as make-up removers.
  • Coconut oil also helps split ends.
  • Vaseline works brilliantly as a cuticle butter; you can also dab it on your cheekbones for a dewy glow.
  • Use Waxy lip balms to shape and tame your eyebrows.
  • Fill eyebrow gaps with an eyeliner pencil using light strokes.
  • Use a conditioner on your legs instead of buying shaving cream.
  • Store oil products like your foundation, lipsticks and eyeliners in the fridge; they will last longer.
  • You can make your razor last longer by shaking it dry after you use it. You can also:
  • Let family and friends know you’d love a spa voucher for your birthday or Christmas.
  • Keep a look out for beauty promotions and ask for make-up and fragrance samples.
  • Volunteer to help students at beauty schools as a “model”.
  • Research make-up companies that will give you free products if you bring in old containers for recycling.
