The suspects who shot and killed the former leader of the 28s gang, Ernest “Lastig” Solomon, are still on the run.
The 62-year-old was shot dead while driving in his white BMW at the intersection of Rondebult Road and Kingfisher Avenue on November 20.
The notorious Cape gang boss has since been laid to rest on December 5.
On the day of the incident, Solomon was with three other people in the car – a child, a woman and a man – who were all taken to hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
The Advertiser reported on November 24 that one of the occupants, the man, died in hospital while the child and the woman were in a stable condition.
A well-placed source recently told the Advertiser the mother is still recovering in hospital and the little one was discharged from hospital in December.
The police have since launched a manhunt for the gang of four men who ambushed the victims.
Capt Kay Makhubele, Gauteng police spokesperson, said no one has been arrested so far.
According to Makhubele, the suspects’ car, a white Ford Ranger, bumped the BMW on the right-hand side then blocked the car before two of the attackers opened fire. They fled the scene in another Ford, leaving the bakkie behind.
The well-placed source revealed the child’s mother is Solomon’s daughter, and the man who was in the car with the family was his employee.
Information received suggested Solomon was on his way to drop off his daughter in Boksburg before they were ambushed. The Ranger used by the gunmen was reported stolen in KwaZulu-Natal.
Police are investigating a case of two murders and two attempted murders.
