Former East Rand United coach joins the Valke

United coach on surprising move to the Valke

Former East Rand United coach Alvandre Maart has left its senior team’s top seat to join the Valke Rugby Union as an assistant and defence coach.

The move sees Maart return to the Valke for his second stint – having served the union as a backline coach for four years before returning to United to replace Stephan Nel as the first team’s head coach in early 2019.

The mentor, however, is expected to continue being heavily involved with United with his name leading in a race for a top executive position at the Reiger Park outfit. The Advertiser will give further updates as that situation continues to develop.

Maart, who did not get the chance to influence United’s change in fortunes largely due to the pandemic putting amateur sport to a halt, explained the surprise move was part of his 2021 plans to go back to professional rugby or Varsity Cup.

With United’s top coaching seat now vacant, the club has wasted no time in seeking Maart’s replacement.

A statement from the club has been released, seeking for interested candidates in coaching United. Interested coaches can contact Maart on 062 730 8448, the number is also available on WhatsApp.
