Watch: Missing dog reunited with family after two weeks

The community of Sunward Park and the Boksburg SPCA played a pivotal role in assisting the Beling family to find Bo

The Beling family from Sunward Park is elated to be reunited with their beloved dog after 15 days of sleepless nights.

Bo, an 11-month-old cross-collie male, went missing from his home on December 26 after the gate was mistakenly left open.

According to Jacqueline Beling, while her and her family were on holidays in the Eastern Cape, they got a frantic call from their house sitters notifying them that Bo ran away while the gate was left open.

“Bo has never gone out for walks that is why he couldn’t find his way back home. When I received that call I panicked because I wasn’t expecting something like this to happen. I was a nervous wreck; my entire holiday was stressful. I didn’t relax at all. I then told the house sitters to take my other dog Zoe for a walk, maybe she will locate Bo through his scent but that didn’t help,” said Beling.

Back in his mother’s arms, Jacqueline Beling, is Bo, an 11-month-old cross-collie who went missing from his home on December 26 after the gate was mistakenly left open.

Seeing that her dearest dog wasn’t found, Beling said she then had to rely on the community to assist her find Bo.

“I then put up a message on all social media platforms to appeal for help. He was then sighted in Kingfisher, Freeway Park and Farrar Park. My sister also spotted him towards Farrar Park and when they called for him he got scared and ran. We then put up another message on our community Whatsapp group letting them know that he was seen around Farrar Park. They set up search parties, drones and other advance equipment were used during the search,” she said.

Beling said she recorded her voice and that sound clip was used during the search so that Bo can hear her voice but that also failed.

The caring mother said someone suggested that they contact a woman who does body frequency reading using Bo’s hair.

“We were told that Bo is not starved or dehydrated. His lactic levels were high and his muscles were in pain as well as his bones in his feet were inflamed which suggested that he travelled very far. We were also told he was very scared and anxious, he was safe but not happy.”

Beling said when they came back from the Eastern Cape they went to the SPCA to fill out the lost and found forms.

Desperate to find Bo, Beling said they also contacted a spiritual medium who said they will find Bo at the bottom boundary wall. Days went by without any luck until a woman phoned the Boksburg SPCA on January 7 saying she had seen a dog in a stormwater drain near Fords Village in Boksburg South.

Trainee inspectors Ralph Chivaviro and Denise Govender carried out the rescue operation and that’s when he was found. Feeling ecstatic and in disbelief, the Beling family fetched Bo at the Boksburg SPCA on January 10. He was kept at the stray block, kennel nine which was next to the Boksburg SPCA’s bottom boundary wall.

Love conquers all

According to Beling, Bo had a special place in her heart because when she got Bo last year February he was a week old and she bottled fed Bo and his brother until they were old enough.

“I got to know about them through a Facebook post from an animal shelter saying they’ve found puppies abandoned inside a box alongside a highway in Soweto. I then decided to take them in temporarily. Bo stole our hearts and we decided to keep him and his brother was adopted into another family.”

Overjoyed that Bo has been found after two weeks of sleepless nights is Jacqueline Beling from Sunward Park.

Beling described Bo as sweet, energetic superhero who is protective of his family.
“My whole family thought we would never ever see Bo again but I’m glad he found his way back to us. Since the incident, he is always anxious but his happy to be back,” she said.
