Private cremation to be held for bee attack victim
Friends describe Jacques (Jack) Leroy as a friendly person who loved animals and good food
Jacques (Jack) Leroy will be cremated on Friday, January 8, during an intimate ceremony, according to his wife, Daniéle.
The 76-year-old pensioner was stung by a swarm of bees on December 26 after he went to trim grass around a meter box in Atlas Spruit Park near his home on the corner of Kakelaar Street and Nightingale Road, Atlasville, at about 5pm.
Daniéle said they will not be holding a funeral service.
On that fateful day, while Jack was cutting the grass a swarm of bees attacked him. He apparently hobbled to his driveway where he was found collapsed when a neighbour, Brett Tompsett, drove past their house.
Paramedics and a bee keeper were called to the scene where it took an hour to get the bees off Jack in order to get him into an ambulance.
Brett’s wife, Kim, said it was a dreadful sight and probably the worst experience of her life to see Jack covered in bees.
He died at the Pholosong Hospital, in Brakpan, in the early hours of January 1 after he was transferred there from being admitted at Tambo Memorial Hospital on December 26.
