3 Super speedy snack ideas for kids

These three super simple and delicious homemade snack recipes will be devoured in seconds!

Kids love yummy homemade snacks and busy moms love snack recipes that are quick and easy to make. We have put together three kid-friendly recipes that are both healthy and delicious.

Super berry smoothie

This delicious super berry smoothie is the perfect healthy treat to cool your kids off on hot summer’s days.

*Makes 2 servings Berries contain a boost of disease-fighting antioxidants and fibre and are jam-packed with vitamins. This makes them the perfect super-fuel for kids.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of mixed berries
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 cup of low-fat yoghurt
  • Half a cup of milk, or replace this with orange juice

Method

Place all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.

Top Tip: Bulk up this recipe by adding a tablespoon of flaxseed or raw oats. A tablespoon of protein powder will also make this simple smoothie go a long way. It’s great for fussy eaters when you need to add a little ‘extra’ to their meals.  

Easy Muesli, Cranberry & Pumpkin seed Crunches

Your little ones will love these scrumptious and nutritious lunch-box snacks.

Ingredients

  • 180g butter
  • 1 cup oats
  • ½ cup dried cranberries ( or raisins)
  • 1cup muesli
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 1 tablespoon bicarbonate
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds to garnish

Method

  1. Melt butter and syrup together.
  2. Add bicarbonate and stir until it froths.
  3. Mix dry ingredients in.
  4. Flatten the mixture out into greased muffin tins or on a greased baking tray and scatter over the pumpkin seeds
  5. Cook at 180ºC for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Allow to cool in the tin before removing, store in an airtight container.  

Veggie packed lamb meatballs

Ensuring a balanced midday selection can mean the difference between a calm afternoon and a horrible tantrum at 4 pm.  

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 courgette
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley
  • 500g lamb mince

Method

  1. In a pan, heat coconut oil and sauté garlic and onions until translucent.
  2. Add carrots and tomato paste and cook for 5 minutes. Allow to cool.
  3. Place courgettes and parsley in a food processor and chop until fine. Squeeze out excess moisture. Set aside in a large bowl.
  4. Add mince, onion mix, and remaining ingredients into the bowl. Use your hands to form into balls.
  5. Return to pan and cook for 10 minutes until browned on all sides and cooked through.
